About Business Diversity

Business Diversity Event

The Office of Business Diversity works to create opportunities for minority- and women-owned firms to compete for business in the University of Chicago’s goods and services supply chain (including professional services), new construction, and renovation projects. Quality business relationships support the ongoing organizational needs of this institution. The University’s goals and commitment to groundbreaking research and the delivery of exceptional education are supported by alliances with outstanding minority- and women-owned businesses. Business diversity is a key component of the University of Chicago’s initiative to be an inclusive community.

The University of Chicago Office of Business Diversity supports the University’s legacy of inclusion by:

Programs

Direct Connect Program

In a decentralized environment, it is important to create relationship-building opportunities. This program links diverse firms to the purchasing decision makers within the University. We bring in highly qualified diverse businesses that are potential suppliers and provide them with one-on-one time in front of department heads and purchasing decision makers.

South Side Business Development Initiative

The University of Chicago has a strong commitment to the vitality of the city of Chicago and particularly the mid-South Side of Chicago. We work hard to foster a healthy business climate by developing partnerships with South Side businesses whenever possible. We give special recognition to departments who create new partnerships with South Side businesses and foster existing relationships.

Through our business development initiative, the Office of Business Diversity works to develop and build the capacity of minority businesses so that they are ready to compete on University contracting opportunities. We invite South Side businesses to attend business enhancement workshops and seminars at the University. This initiative consists of a collaborative effort between the Office of Business Diversity, the Graduate School of Business Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship, and the Law School Institute For Justice Clinic on Entrepreneurship.
